Leadership

AvonTSA believes that school leadership at all levels should be identified, supported and developed. Teachers should be able to access leadership development that is appropriate to their current role and which helps them to move forward in their career.

This highly participatory course is aimed at support staff team leaders aiming to build on and develop their leadership skills.

The ASCL National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) is your opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised, executive leadership qualification, working with colleagues and leading educationalists from across the country, and utilising local expertise and knowledge which fits your regional context. Designed for those leading more than one school or college, or those interested in taking on such a role, either as an executive headteacher or as chief executive of a trust in any phase of education, our new executive leadership programme offers an exceptional opportunity to prepare you for the challenges of running a group of schools/colleges, enhance your leadership skills, hone your practice and achieve formal recognition with the latest qualification from the NPQ suite. This programme is provided in partnership with ASCL,Tenax Schools Trust and Altius Teaching School Alliance, the Yorkshire Leadership Community, the Lawrence Sheriff School and Griffin Teaching School Alliance.

Avon TSA supports the delivery of the North Wiltshire Federation Aspiring Middle Leaders programme. This programme enables participants to:

  • To develop the ability to bring out the best in yourself and others

Our evaluative feedback every year is excellent and we have a legacy of participants going on to secure additional responsibility in new roles. The programme is adapted each year to meet the needs of participants and reflect national and local educational priorities.

Sessions are held after school in a variety of school venues across North Wiltshire. Priority for places is given to teachers who work in schools within the federation in the first instance. Spaces may be available for teachers in other schools; please enquire.

Feedback from previous delegates

This programme has had a huge impact in my professional development. It has enabled me to lead staff in my school with greater confidence and get them on board with my vison for my subject.

Coaching was a key learning point in understanding how to support colleagues, parents and students when tackling challenging situations. More than that, it has given me the time and space to reflect on who I am as a new leader and enabled me to take steps in becoming the kind of practitioner I aspire to be.

Hannah, Holt Primary School

If you are caught in the trap where you are looking for more responsibility but keep being told you don’t have the experience, this course is a really effective way forward.

You will also genuinely learn from the experiences you’ll get, in a way that is hard to do otherwise. The course was hugely helpful for me as I interviewed for leadership posts during the year and has directly contributed to my appointment to a promoted role.

Dan, Malmesbury School

This course has greatly supported my recent leadership role and informed me of many strategies and techniques that I have already adopted to support teaching and learning.

Rebecca, Holt Primary School

The opportunity to reflect on my own practice has been beneficial to my current role working with student teachers and NQTS alike. Being able to share and discuss issues has also enable me to reflect on my own leadership style and consider changing my approach in some areas.
