The Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme (OTAP) will develop your potential as a Teaching Assistant to have a wider impact on improving the quality of teaching and learning across the school.
Our OLEVI accredited programmes are facilitated by dynamic and experienced school leaders and teachers in schools across our alliance. Whether you are looking for ideas to enhance your practice, challenge yourself to improve your classroom skills or want to influence teaching and learning beyond your classroom; these programmes will support you in developing your expertise. We run these programmes in a variety of locations across Wiltshire and Gloucestershire and in collaboration with The Mead TSA so you don’t have to travel too far.
This Power of Coaching programme has been designed to enhance the leadership of teaching and learning through promoting effective coaching. Among many benefits, this programme helps schools to work more effectively as a whole school team and improve their collaboration with other schools and organisations.
This programme is open to teachers with the potential and capacity to deliver consistently good and outstanding lessons and who will take key ideas and skills back to their school to share, or even lead, on some teaching and learning initiatives either within their department/faculty or across the school.
We know that after a period in the classroom post PGCE and NQT years, we all like to take the time to reflect on our practice. So whether you are in your second year of teaching, returning to teaching or want to refresh your classroom skills, the ITP will meet your needs.
This programme is for teaching assistants who are, or who have the potential to be, outstanding in their roles. Delegates will gain confidence in feeling able to voice their views and ideas, and feel empowered to take the lead in their development as “learning assistants”.

Jennifer has a decade of experience across four mixed comprehensive schools in rural and city settings. As Head of Mathematics in two schools she has taken a lead role in ensuring one school came out of an Ofsted category, and securing the best ever GCSE results in both establishments. Three years ago she joined Malmesbury School as Assistant Head and as lead on CPD and Teaching and Learning at Malmesbury School she has embedded a TeachMeet approach to sharing best practice through quick tried and tested ideas. Jennifer is passionate about the power of effective collaboration, peer observation and risk taking that enables successful teams to bring about change to improve student outcomes. Jennifer helps deliver high quality CPD for the AvonTSA and the North Wiltshire Federation Group where she is able to apply her varied experience to new and unfamiliar situations, giving practical tips and advice.
She believes a teacher’s wellbeing is central to them delivering their best lessons and is currently learning how to juggle three children and a busy life herself!
Felicity has a true passion for pedagogy and enjoys taking on new challenges. She has taught English, Psychology, Critical Thinking and is now a facilitator for OLEVI, having recently completed the Power of Coaching programme. As lead teacher for Psychology at Hardenhuish, Felicity has fostered a truly cohesive team and provides an abundance of enrichment opportunities for students, launching Psychology to the top of the ‘most chosen’ A level list!
As an experienced PGCE and NQT mentor, Felicity brings with her a wealth of knowledge, skills and understanding around how to encourage teachers to be reflective practitioners. As author of the Hardenhuish ‘Successful Lives’ and ‘DIRT’ programme she has shared an exciting vision for how to move teaching and learning forwards, bringing her energy, enthusiasm and creativity to all she meets. And she runs hilly half-marathons!
Carl is a very experienced teacher who has taught in three large mixed comprehensives in both city and rural locations. He believes strongly in an education system that enables boys and girls of all abilities and backgrounds to achieve through good teaching and learning.
Carl currently leads a thriving Design and Technology faculty at Sheldon School, which holds the prestigious Design Mark. Under his leadership, Sheldon School has been designated a Lead School for Design and Technology by the National College to recognise outstanding pupil performance in what is Wiltshire’s largest secondary school.
Carl is a Specialist Leader in Education and supports colleagues in other schools with subject leadership and curriculum based matters. He also works closely with Bath Spa University supporting the PGCE course and providing cohort training. Carl leads on Teaching and Learning at Sheldon School and is one of the facilitators for the Olevi programmes run by the AvonTSA .
Helen has worked in Grammar, Independent and Comprehensive schools over the last 20 years during which time she has held and developed many key roles. As a Humanities teacher she developed and coordinated new courses, and ways of teaching, which were extremely effective in securing high end results at both GCSE and A level. As a middle leader she carried out research into the use of language in the classroom and boy/girl gender issues, completing a masters in Educational Management and later an MBA. She frequently uses research to inform her practice and, encourages others to do the same. Helen successfully held several middle leader roles: she became a Head of Year, Head of History and Head of Marketing before moving onto her current school as Assistant Head and then Deputy Headteacher at Bradon Forest School.
In her current role she has developed Teaching and Learning and CPD programmes and has a key role in working collaboratively with the Athelstan Trust, AvonTSA and the North Wiltshire Federation Group to develop and deliver high quality CPD to colleagues from across the county.
